Kai Sotto competed in the NBA for the first time on Monday.
The Adelaide 36ers shocked the Phoenix Suns, 134-124, in a preseason game at Arizona’s Footprint Center, thanks in big part to the performance of the Filipino center.
In 18 minutes of play for the 36ers, Sotto finished with 11 points, two rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
By making 3-of-6 shots from the field, including 1-of-2 from long range, and converting all four free throw attempts, 20-year-old Sotto demonstrated his variety and effectiveness.
Robert Franks and Craig Randall combined for 67 points to lead Adelaide, which made a scorching 24-of-43 from deep.
Franks made six triples, compared to nine for Randall.
For the 36ers, who will play Friday against the Oklahoma City Thunder and former player Josh Giddey, Antonius Cleveland added 22 points.
Big man DeAndre Ayton and forward Mikal Bridges each scored 22 points to lead the Suns, while Cameron Payne led the team with 23 points.
