Spurs defeat the Knicks for the fifth loss in a row, 122-115
San Antonio won 122-115 by shooting over 50% for the game and maintaining just enough of a lead over the New York Knicks for most of the game’s last three quarters after taking an early lead. In the fourth quarter, Julius Randle and Immanuel Quickley ignited the Knicks’ late comeback, but Keldon Johnson and Romeo Langford turned back the Knicks’ charge in the last flourish.
San Antonio had a great shooting first quarter in which they grabbed a nine-point lead. Neither team had any issue making 3-pointers. The Spurs were able to keep their shooting percentage above 50% for the remainder of the first half.
In a balanced attack where nine Spurs scored five or more points, San Antonio, without its key swingman Devin Vassell, benefited from a career-high scoring performance from Langford (23 points, three rebounds, and one steal). Also, with help from Johnson (30 points, three rebounds, and two blocks), Tre Jones (13 points, seven rebounds, and six assists), and Jeremy Sochan (12 points and five rebounds).
In the absence of its stars, Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett, New York’s outsized performance in the defeat came from Randle (averaging 41 points, eleven rebounds, and seven assists) and Quickley (scoring 36 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds).
