Pelicans defeat Timberwolves with 43 points from Zion Williamson
Williamson, 22, at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, scored the Pelicans’ final 14 points to help them overturn a five-point deficit.
However, D’Angelo Russell, the Timberwolves guard, criticized his roughness.
“We can’t guard or touch him since he is playing (American) football while we are playing basketball,” added Russell.
For the Timberwolves, Russell and Anthony Edwards both scored 27 points.
Williamson was selected first in the 2019 draft, although he missed more than a year due to injuries and faced criticism for his weight.
He has nevertheless assisted the Pelicans in leading the Western Conference.
People remember winners, said Williamson. “I observed numerous former players and attempted to understand their mindsets, and all their mindsets were the same.”
“If I ever retire from the game of basketball, I want people to remember me as a champion.” (Teammate) CJ (McCollum) glanced at me and said, “This is the time to step up if you want to be great, and that was all the inspiration I needed.”
With their tenth straight victory, the Brooklyn Nets rose to second place in the Eastern Conference.
In a 108-107 victory over the Atlanta Hawks, Kevin Durant scored 26 points, and Kyrie Irving scored 28.
After a season hampered by a terrible start, coach Steve Nash’s firing, and Irving’s ban due to accusations of anti-Semitism, Durant stated, “It’s fantastic to regain some stability, win a few games along the way, and have some fun.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 45 points and grabbed 22 rebounds for the Milwaukee Bucks, but DeMar DeRozan led the Chicago Bulls to a 119-113 overtime victory.
The Golden State Warriors, the defending champs, rallied to defeat the Utah Jazz 112-107, their third straight victory.
