Denver Nuggets Nikola Jokic contending for the MVP award for a third consecutive season
A center for the Denver Nuggets, Nikola Jokic, is vying for MVP honors for the third straight year.
On some sportsbooks, Jokic is one of the top 10 candidates for the award. The Nuggets star is ranked No. 2 on the Kia MVP ladder, just behind Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans share the top seed in the Western Conference.
The fourth player in league history to win three consecutive MVP honors may be Jokic. He would be the only player to achieve this feat, joining Hall of Famers Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Larry Bird.
On Friday night, he maintained his position against the Miami Heat. Jokic and Markieff Morris got into a physical altercation during one of his most recent games against Miami. Morris’s back injury prevented him from playing for the rest of the season.
Although Morris isn’t in Miami this year, the Heat must match his defensive vigor against Jokic. To compete with Jokic on offense, they will need to be playmakers.
The Nuggets’ standout player scored 25.7 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 9.4 assists per game. His top-10 NBA stats include assists, rebounds, and shooting percentage (62 percent). Jokic finally enjoys the luxury of having All-Star guard Jamal Murray back in the lineup, unlike in previous years.
This season, Jokic will face stiffer competition from players like Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, and Kevin Durant, making winning MVP challenging.
