He was forced out of his July 3 start in Oakland and sat out nearly three weeks, though he was strong in two starts before Aug. Cooper Bowman was shipped from New York to the A’s for Montas and right-hander Lou Trivino.

 

 

Montas is 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA in eight regular-season starts for the Yankees, the last of which was Sept. 16 in Milwaukee when a shoulder problem flared up again. He returned to the court in the first inning of the American League Championship Series against the Astros when the club said they expected Montas to be fully healthy before spring training.

 

 

Yankees head coach Aaron Boone has placed Montas in his likely starting rotation behind Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, and Nestor Cortez. Montas’ injury could spark a spring rivalry between Domingo Germain and Clark Schmidt for fifth.
