Brown scored 11.4 pts, 7.1 rebounds, and four assists every game as a sophomore for the Miami Hurricanes, shooting 27 percent from 3-point range. He only appeared in 19 games and missed the playoffs due to a left foot injury that necessitated surgery. 

Brown declared for the 2018 NBA draft after the season but did not engage an agency, letting him return to college. He ultimately chose to remain in the draft.

Detroit Pistons (2018–2020)

Brown was selected 42nd overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2018 NBA Draft on June 21, 2018. Brown made his NBA debut against the Brooklyn Nets on October 17, 2018, with no points, two rebs, and an assist in 19 minutes of action. He had 22 points, seven assists, and no turnovers in a 113-109 win over the Nets on November 2, 2019. Brown had 19 points, ten rebs, and eight assists in a 128-123 overtime win over the Denver Nuggets on February 2, 2020.

Brooklyn Nets (2020–2022)

Brown was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team transaction on November 19, 2020.

Brown averaged a career-high 29 points in the Nets’ 127-118 victory over the Sacramento Kings on February 23, 2021.

On April 23, 2022, he led the Nets in scoring with 26 points in a loss to the Celtics in the first match of the NBA playoffs. The Nets fell to 0-3 on the season following that game.
