Early Life

 

Dorian was born on May 4, 1993, and was raised by his mother, Desiree Finney, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

 

Little was known about his father because Desiree was his only parent.

 

Benjamin Finney, Sha-Kiyla Finney, Late Ra-Shawn Finney, Da-Shawn Finney, and Monna Zjea Finney Smith were Dorian’s siblings.

I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth was Dorian’s place of education. As a sophomore in 2009, he averaged 19.7 points, 13 boards, six assists, and three steals per game. After that, he undoubtedly joined Virginia Tech in 2010.

 

Dorian developed into the most important member of the Norcom squad while he was a player, and the team claimed the Group AAA, Eastern Region, and District crowns.

 

The forward for the Mavericks amassed numerous high school honors, including Class AAA Player of the Year and two VHSL championships. Additionally, he earned first-team all-region, all-state, all-Tidewater, and all-district recognition.

College Career

 

In 2011–12, Dorian collaborated with Virginia Tech. After netting 17 points in a victory over Boston College during his rookie season, he was selected to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

 

He changed colleges after his first year and enrolled at Florida University. He was then given a six-month suspension in accordance with NCAA guidelines.

 

Dorian successfully rejoined Florida’s squad, and in his second year, he emerged as the team’s top scorer. He received the Sixth Man of the Year award from the Southeastern Conference.

On November 6, he helped his squad defeat the Milwaukee Bucks 86-75 with five points, three boards, three steals, and one block.

 

By defeating the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies, and Indiana Pacers, he guided his squad to victory.

 

Dorian missed 51 games in 2018 due to tendonitis in his left leg. However, he again agreed to a $12 million, three-year contract with the Mavericks on July 11, 2019.

 

He appears to be with the Mavericks for the long haul. In a 114-110 win over the Sacramento Kings on August 4, 2020, Dorian grabbed a career-high 16 boards.
