Blue Jays sign reliever Chad Green to an $8.5 million, two-year contract

Blue Jays sign reliever Chad Green to an $8.5 million, two-year contract

On Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays and free agency reliever Chad Green reached an agreement on an $8.5 million, two-year deal.

The four-season agreement, which includes options for 2025 and 2026, could be worth $29.25 million.

Due to his Tommy John surgery, Green is expected to miss at least the beginning of this season. With the New York Yankees in May last year, he suffered a pitching elbow injury and missed the remainder of the season.

The right-hander had a 3.00 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 15 innings last year to get off to a strong start. He departed New York’s game against the Baltimore Orioles on May 19 due to soreness in his right forearm, and the Yankees revealed he had Tommy John surgery three days later.

The ligament-replacement treatment typically requires 12 to 18 months of rehabilitation.

Green makes $2.25 million this season, and the Blue Jays must choose whether to activate a club option that would result in $9 million payments in 2024, 2025, and 2026 after this season.

Green has a $6.25 million conditional player option for 2024 but can only be activated once Toronto exercises its option. Depending on how frequently he appears this year, Green’s dependent choice may increase by up to $1 million, or $250,000 per time.

Toronto has a conditional option worth $10.5 million per year for 2024 and 2025 if both the Blue Jays and Greens decline their initial choices. For appearances this year, those options include $1 million in escalators: $500,000 each for 60 and 65 games.

The 33-year-old Green has spent his entire major league career with the Yankees, going 33-22 with a 3.17 ERA. He has 53 holds and 11 saves.

In 383 2/3 innings, Green has faced 494 batters and walked just 96. With ten victories, 67 appearances, and 83 2/3 innings pitched with a 3.12 ERA, he achieved personal bests in 2021.

Matt Gage, a left-handed pitcher for Toronto, was designated for assignment to free up space on the 40-man roster.

As assistant pitching coaches, the Blue Jays hired David Howell for strategy and Jeff Ware for bullpen duties. The remainder of the big-league coaching staff from last season will be back, according to the franchise.

Checking mega prospect Jasson Dominguez for the Yankees entering 2023

Checking mega prospect Jasson Dominguez for the Yankees entering 2023

The titles Jasson Dominguez received when he signed a record-breaking international deal with the Yankees include “otherworldly,” “The Martian,” “the next Mickey Mantle,” and “just Mike Trout.”

The Bombers signed Dominguez to a contract with a $5.1 million signing bonus in 2019, making him arguably the most highly regarded international prospect in MLB history. Baseball talent evaluators from all over the world were optimistic about the eye-popping skills of the Dominican native before they even stepped foot on a minor-league diamond; this would rank him as high as the 32nd-best prospect in the league, according to the source.

In the spring of 2021, Kevin Reese told reporters, “I don’t think [the expectations are] realistic. It’s challenging to assist him in controlling those expectations since he won’t perform tomorrow like Mike Trout or Aaron Judge.

Mantle and Trout are mentioned less frequently in the current review, while Dominguez’s plaque in the Hall of Fame has been delayed. According to MLB Pipeline, the 19-year-old is ranked as baseball’s 47th-best prospect heading into the 2023 season.

There continue to be numerous reasons to dream of the tools that the centerfield prospect still possesses, despite the sheen of a historically hyped prospect starting to fade a little.

In 2022, Dominguez, who was making his debut in the lower leagues, competed at three levels, appearing to improve as he advanced. His slash line through 120 games at Low-A, High-A, and Double-A was.273/.376/.461, with 16 home runs and 59 RBI.

The outfielder performed just five regular season games after getting to Double-A Somerset before lighting up the postseason. In five games, “The Martian” hit.450/.560/.950 with three home runs and 10 RBI. His performance in the championship game, where he went 3-4 and blasted home runs from both sides of the plate, guaranteed him a position at Double-A to start 2023.

At All-Star weekend in Los Angeles, Dominguez received the chance to showcase his abilities for a national audience after being selected for the MLB Futures Game in 2022, along with Yankee farmhand Anthony Volpe, who batted fourth for the American League team. Dominguez gave them something to watch by launching a 415-foot home run from the right side that registered at 107 mph.

Despite the sparkle, many aspects of his game still need to be worked on, such as the in-game power that the Bombers are still waiting to show on a more regular basis. The switch-hitter consistently records exit velocities over 100 mph, and as an 18-year-old in a sim game, he reached as high as 117 mph, earning him strong raw-power marks from raters.

The amount of weight the young outfielder has added to his frame and what that means for his speed and ability to play center field for the long run are hot topics of conversation. Nevertheless, Dominguez swiped 37 bases in 44 attempts last season, showing that the young outfielder’s legs are still very much in evidence. It is essential to note the organization-wide surge in stolen base attempts and the Yankees’ system-wide emphasis on baserunning.

Regarding defense, opinions vary on whether Dominguez will even be a center fielder since his build may be better suited to the corner outfield positions.

According to the source, “His play in the center field receives mixed reviews, with some analysts anticipating that he will stay in the middle and others expecting that his inconsistent defensive play would force him into a corner. Thanks to his solid-to-plus arm strength and offensive promise, he would have no trouble profiling well in the right field.”

As always, only time will tell, so it’s critical to consider the timescale while concluding the possibilities. Dominguez, who has only played one entire season of professional baseball, finished the year just two steps outside the Bronx. He was the youngest player on the Double-A Somerset team by almost two years.

Dominguez has several options to pursue his goals at the primary league level. Currently, the Yanks lack a reliable option for left field for the upcoming season and beyond, and current center fielder Harrison Bader will be a free agent after the 2023 campaign. The Martian might land in the Bronx as early as 2024 if the switch-hitter advances as swiftly in the minors this coming season as he did last year.

Orioles signed one of the most recognized international prospects: Oriales Interested in Luis Almeyda

Orioles signed one of the most recognized international prospects: Oriales Interested in Luis Almeyda

The Club has signed one of the most famous international prospects in the Baseball industry. And they paid a record amount of money to do so.

The team agreed to a deal with shortstop Luis Almeyda. Almeyda ranked as the Number 20 overall prospect on the international list of Top 50. According to sources, it is a $2.3 million deal, the most given in international franchise history.

With a base signing pool of $5,825,500, the Orioles announced the agreement with 26 other international players. Baltimore’s twenty-seven deals are connected the most during a worldwide signing period (along with 2019-20). But the headliner was given a deal to the 16-year-old Almeyda.

The Orioles are confident that’s the case with Almeyda, born in Paterson, New Jersey. Before his family, they were moving to the Dominican Republic when he was 15 to care for his Grandmother, who had been sick with Alzheimer’s. When Luis Almeyda was living in the U.S., he said he drew much interest from college. His Relocation presented a different type of direction to the professional baseball industry. And when the Club hosted Almeyda for multiple workouts, it made his signing decision easy.

There’s a lot to like about Almeyda. He runs fast for his size and can be a five-tool athlete if he continues to develop them normally. As with many large middle infielders, Luis will develop shortstop and eventually move to third base. Still, the adjustment to a new position should be fine because of his athleticism and skill set.

Cesar Suarez of the CJ Baseball Academy represents Almeyda. Suarez is a member of MLB’s TPP (Trainers Partnership Program. An international player is allowed to sign with a Major League team from December 15 to January 15. Luis must turn 16 before he signs and be 17 before September 1 of the next year. In practical terms, players born between September 1, 2005, and August 31, 2006, will be allowed to sign in the upcoming period. Players have to be registered with Major League Baseball in advance to be qualified to sign. Teams are allowed to trade international bonus pool money starting January 15.

Andrew McCutchen returns to Pirates

Andrew McCutchen returns to Pirates

Andrew McCutcheon, 2013 National League MVP and one of the most accomplished players in Buccaneers history, has agreed to a 1-year, $5 million deal, pending medical, according to the source back to Pittsburgh. The club has yet to confirm the agreement.

However, McCutchen appeared to confirm the deal himself on Instagram.

McCutchen needs no introduction in this city. The Buccaneers selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft. Four years later, he became a pirate. From the 2009-17 season, McCutchen developed into one of the preeminent outfielders in baseball and the best Buc of the 21st century.

He received:

  • five All-Star nominations

  • He brought back four Silver Sluggers.

  • The Golden Gloves are also located in his trophy cabinet.

  • In 2013, McCutchen led the Buccaneers to their 1st playoff berth in more than 20 years, earning the NL MVP award.

The Pirates traded McCutchen on January 15, 2018, along with cash, to the Giants for Bryan Reynolds, pitcher Kyle Crick and 500,000 dollars in international prize pool space. After San Francisco, McCutchen fit the Yankees, Phillies, and Brewers, remaining an efficient player at each stop.

No matter what road suit he’s been wearing over the past few years, McCutchen was greeted with applause when he returned to PNC Park. Pittsburgh will have its first chance to cheer on No. 22 in more than five years as he rocks black and gold.

McCutchen is nearing several personal milestones, with 1,948 hits, 287 home runs, 392 doubles, & 983 walks. Throughout the season, McCutchen will likely hit 2,000 hits, 300 home runs, 400 doubles, & 1,000 walks. Forty-three players reached the milestone in AL/NL history, with Miguel Cabrera and Joey Votto being the only active players on the roster.

McCutchen will see time at the designated hitter and field corner. In Milwaukee, he played a career-low 53 games in the outfield, 31 in left field, and 19 in the right.

There is also the mentoring aspect. This offseason, the Buccaneers supplemented their young, burgeoning core with many veterans. Toyama. Carlos Santana. Choi Chi Man. Austin Hedges. Pittsburgh can add McCutchen, who is entering his 15th season, to the roster. The Bucs’ youngsters could learn a thing or three from the former MVP.

McCutchen’s decision to return to Pittsburgh Pirates could signal that this season will be his last.

Cutch was a below-average hitter for the first time in his career in 2022, according to OPS+ and wRC+. He posted a career-low .316 hit percentage and a .384 slugging percentage. McCutchen will turn 36 on Opening Day, and heading home could be an opportunity to close the loop and finish his career right where it started.

Whether that’s the end or not, one thing’s for sure: Andrew McCutchen is in the Pittsburgh Pirates again.

First month of the season could miss by Montas

First month of the season could miss by Montas

The Yankees plan to start the regular season without Montas in the rotation, as the right-hander reportedly continues to battle burning in his pitching shoulder.

The New York Post reported Saturday that Montas was 8-10 weeks behind in offseason workouts and could miss the 1st month of the regular season. Montas, who turns 30 in March 2023, agreed to a 7.5 million Dollar contract on Friday, avoiding arbitration.

Montas dealt with similar issues last season with the Athletics and Yankees. He was forced out of his July 3 start in Oakland and sat out nearly three weeks, though he was strong in two starts before Aug. Cooper Bowman was shipped from New York to the A’s for Montas and right-hander Lou Trivino.

Montas is 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA in 8 regular-season starts for the Yankees, the last of which was Sept. 16 in Milwaukee when a shoulder problem flared up again. He returned to the court in the first inning of the American League Championship Series against the Astros when the club said they expected Montas to be fully healthy before spring training.

Yankees head coach Aaron Boone has placed Montas in his likely starting rotation behind Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, and Nestor Cortez. Montas’ injury could spark a spring rivalry between Domingo German and Clark Schmidt for fifth. Montas in rotation.

Despite coaching changes, the Cards are hopeful about Arenado

Despite coaching changes, the Cards are hopeful about Arenado

Former Cardinal Holliday is considered for a coaching position, and Mozeliak anticipates higher payroll.

Cardinals president John Mozeliak expressed his hope that the organization wouldn’t experience a similar level of turnover at third base about superstar Nolan Arenado on Wednesday while announcing a number of upcoming changes to the coaching staff for the 2023 Cardinals.

Arenado, who for the seventh time in his career hit at least 30 home runs and drove in at least 100 runs, has until 5 days after the end of the World Series to determine whether he will stay with the Cardinals or decide to option out of his contract and become a free agent. To ascertain Arenado’s position on his future with St. Louis, Mozeliak claimed he met with him on Monday in Southern California.

Arenado, who is running for a likely 10th straight Gold Glove Award, reportedly wanted to know about the team’s plans to raise its budget for 2023. And possibly add more offensive firepower to better protect third baseman and fellow MVP contender Paul Goldschmidt in the lineup.

I want to say that I’m hopeful that this will have a happy ending, and as I said, I hope we hear some news on that sooner rather than later, said Mozeliak. “I don’t believe the arrangement has to be reworked. He’s merely attempting to take advantage of his free time by organizing some stuff.

I’m hopeful we can reach a place where we’re both delighted and have that understanding. He needs some time to reflect on that. He asked questions on how we’re thinking about the club, what we’re thinking about in the future, and topics like, “How are we going to deploy our resources?” It was a very positive conversation.

Following the announcement of bench coach Skip Schumaker as the Marlins’ new manager on Tuesday, Mozeliak disclosed that hitting coach Jeff Albert, veteran pitching coach Mike Maddux, and bullpen coach Bryan Eversgerd will not be back in 2023. Additionally, Eversgerd will be given a new position within the organization.

Although Mozeliak was ready to extend contracts to Albert and Maddux through the 2023 season and beyond, both players decided to go. Mozeliak claimed that Albert gave as his justification for wanting to move on the blame he received on social media for some of the Cardinals’ hitting problems, first early in the season and again in a two-game playoff loss to the Phillies in the NL Wild Card Series.

According to Mozeliak, both Maddux and Albert have unique stories of their own. In [Maddux’s] situation, he has simply been doing it for a long time and is seeking a change of pace. I believe there were some frustration levels in Jeff’s specific situation, and he accepted much of the blame when things went wrong.

Holliday, who played for St. Louis from 2009 to 2016, stated months ago that if the appropriate opportunity presented itself, he would consider accepting a job offer as a Major League coach. He presently serves as Oklahoma State University’s outfield and hitting coach. He is credited with assisting former Cardinal Matt Carpenter in having a power renaissance season with the Yankees before suffering a season-altering foot injury.

Superstar hitter Albert Pujols, who hit 18 second-half home runs to reach 703 for his career, is out from the lineup after retiring. Mozeliak said the team is working to establish plans on how it would approach the free agency to “augment the offensive.” Yadier Molina is also a catcher, and for the first time in more than two decades, the team will be looking for one.

According to Mozeliak, the Cardinals will have a higher payroll for ’23 after the team attracted 3.3 million spectators in 2022, which was second in MLB only to the Dodgers’ 3.6 million. According to Spotrac, the Cards had the 12th-highest payroll in MLB this season at $170 million. The team, however, finished sixth in the National League, far behind dominant groups like the Mets ($282 million), Dodgers ($275 million), Phillies ($255 million), Padres ($237 million), and Braves ($200 million).

In the opening round of the postseason, Phillies defeated the Cardinals before defeating the 101-win Braves and the Padres. The Phillies just added free-agent sluggers Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. After making audacious trades at the Trade Deadline to acquire Juan Soto, Josh Hader, Josh Bell, and Brandon Drury, San Diego defeated New York and Los Angeles, both of which had more than 100 victories during the regular season.

“The good news is we expect our payroll to go up next season — I know it will — because we had a lot of success at the box office this year. And I want to thank our fans for that,” said Mozeliak, who consistently emphasized the rise of prospects like outfielder Jordan Walker, shortstop Masyn Winn, and pitcher Gordon Graceffo playing into any free-agent plans the Cards make this offseason. “When you get through the epidemic and reach where we are now, we’re one of the only clubs whose attendance levels have come close to those before the outbreak. I am therefore confident that our payroll will increase.

“You must design a roster to [fight] that because it’s a lengthy season,” he continued. “We are aware of our abilities and capabilities, but we still intend to operate as a pipeline-driven company and strive to draft well. We believe we can maintain the success we’ve achieved if we keep doing those things.

In 2023, Wainwright will make one final appearance

In 2023, Wainwright will make one final appearance

Veteran pitcher Adam Wainwright has informed the Cardinals that he will return in ’23, which will be his final season as an MLB pitcher. He feels he still has more to prove after a surprisingly poor last six weeks of the 2022 season.

John Mozeliak, the president of the Cardinals, said on Wednesday that Wainwright, 41, will return for a 19th season with the team. Throughout the 2022 season, Mozeliak and manager Oliver Marmol often stated that they wanted Wainwright back due to his exceptional ability and the tremendous leadership he provides to the pitching staff.

We all know how competitive [Wainwright] is, how unique he is in that clubhouse, and how important he is to this group. We’re just happy we were able to complete it. “Early in September, when he and I first discussed this, September didn’t go as he had hoped,” said Mozeliak, who also revealed four Cardinals’ coaching staff members won’t return for 2023.

Despite his desire to return to the mound, Wainwright said he doesn’t want the fact that this is his final season to divert him from his goal of trying to capture a second World Series championship.

Wainwright stated, “I already have too many diversions and don’t need anymore. “I have to go through a lot of stuff if I tell you it’s the last one. My main goal for the upcoming season is to compete and contribute to this team’s success.

Wainwright concluded, “Long story short: Yes, this will be the final one. “Everyone unwind, and let me pitch. Let’s see what happens if I constantly perform in public without worrying about it.

Wainwright has 195 victories to his credit over a distinguished career that has seen him place fifth or higher voting for the National League Cy Young Award five times. He should be able to reach 200 victories and possibly make a run at 210, which would tie him for second most in franchise history behind only Bob Gibson (251). He stated that he is trying to surpass 212 career victories, which would need him to match his 2021 win total of 17 victories since it would enable him to pass Hall of Famer and close friend John Smoltz.

Last season, Wainwright made 32 starts and posted a record of 11-12 with a 3.71 ERA; this was the first losing campaign of his career in which he made at least 20 starts. By only succeeding twice in his final six starts and posting a 7.22 ERA, he believed he “ruined” an otherwise successful season. He fell eight and a third innings short of his preseason goal of 200 thanks to that bad final stretch, which he constantly attributed to a “dead arm” problem. He was also five wins short of that mark. The Cardinals were swept by the No. 6 seed Phillies in the NL Wild Card Series, which prevented him from pitching in the postseason. The Phillies went on to win the NL pennant and will take on the Astros in the World Series starting Friday.

With so much on the line, Wainwright held himself accountable for letting his delivery and team down. He believes that his performance decline versus the Braves was a leg injury.

Wainwright highlighted Austin Riley’s hit during his start against the Braves on August 28 at Busch Stadium in a string of tweets earlier this month. Riley’s bat sent that ball flying at 103.5 mph, and Wainwright scrambled to catch it and throw it to first base for the out. The Cardinals rallied and won thanks to Wainwright, who is 41 and playing in his 17th MLB season. He believes the comebacker’s aftereffects on his pitching and stride length are still present.

“Unaware of it, following that [Aug. My stride length decreased by about a foot during [game number 28], the 6-foot-7 Wainwright reported. The timing was messed up. I had never had an issue with that before. My stride length has remained remarkably constant over time. My front arm began to try to generate power by pulling because my timing was so horribly off. And when that occurs, you veer off course.

After the Cardinals’ defeat to the Phillies in Game 2, Wainwright declared that he had already decided to return as he left the field. He claimed that he had a strong intuition that the winner of the Cards-Phillies series would take home the World Series before the playoffs. His terrible final six weeks and subsequent exclusion from the NL Wild Card Series will motivate him throughout the offseason to improve in 2023.

That feeling of being passed over for the opportunity to pitch irritates me, not because of anyone else since that is what I deserve. Wainwright stated, “I didn’t deserve to throw those two games. José Quintana and Miles Mikolas thoroughly earned pitching in Games 1 and 2. “I know that if I had raised the way I should have pitched — and the way I can pitch — I would have won those games without a doubt. And in my opinion, if we win one of those two games, we’ll go on to win Game 3 and the World Series. That’s how my brain functions. So, I’ll consider that as I perform reps of the bench press. That will motivate me to put forth more effort and prepare better.

Wainwright’s return aids in bringing stability to a clubhouse that will be without senior players Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols, who retired after the Cardinals were eliminated from the playoffs. With 328 starts combined, Wainwright and Molina set the MLB record for career starts by a battery. This mark is unlikely to be surpassed anytime soon.

Wainwright, according to Mozeliak, is “enthusiastic and energized.” “Having [Wainwright] back is beneficial for all when you consider how we will look at our roster for the following year and how much pitching we will always need.”

Lawlar’s AFL season ends with a fractured left scapula

Lawlar’s AFL season ends with a fractured left scapula

One of the Arizona Fall League’s most promising prospects has cut his season short.

On a hit-by-pitch on Friday, No. 3 D-backs prospect Jordan Lawler shattered his left scapula and will be out for a minimum and maximum of six to eight weeks, according to Arizona director of player development Josh Barfield. The Arizona Republic broke the story on Monday night.

Before his injury, Lawlar was hitting.278/.469/.528 with two home runs, four steals, and 11 walks in 11 games with Salt River.

It’s the second shoulder problem for the 20-year-old shortstop since being drafted sixth overall out of a Texas high school in 2021. He had surgery to repair a posterior labrum rupture in the same left shoulder just one month after getting picked.

Lawlar recovered in time to begin his first entire season with Single-A Visalia and eventually advanced to Double-A Amarillo in 2022. In 100 games with four different D-backs affiliates, he hit.303/.401/.509 with 16 home runs and 39 steals. It meant his promotion to the Fall League to make up for some of the time missed due to a benign growth in his right rib, which required a rehab stint in the Arizona Complex League.

Lawlar is ranked as MLB.com’s No. 12 overall prospect, a shortstop and right-handed bat. He can develop five abilities that are above ordinary to plus. Once healthy, he’ll continue to play a significant role in the youthful and growing Arizona organization, including No. 3 overall prospect Corbin Carroll, No. 2 overall choice Druw Jones, and Minor League strikeout leader Brandon Pfaadt in 2022. He’s anticipated to be ready for Spring Training.

The Astros also have a chance to become the first club in the Divisional Era (since 1969) to have an unbeaten postseason, joining the 1976 Reds (who played seven games). With 11-1 records, the 2005 White Sox and 1999 Yankees share the Wild Card Era record (since 1995).

Since 2015, Houston has eliminated the Yankees from the playoffs four times, including victories in the ALCS in 2017 and, and  The Astros are seeking to capture their first championship since 2017 as they return to the World Series for the fourth time in the preceding six years. Houston will play the Phillies of the NL East, who finished the regular season with an 87-game winning streak after losing in seven games to the Nationals in the Fall Classic in 2019 and six games to the Braves the previous season.

When the Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres made a throwing error in the eighth inning of Game 4, the Astros were behind 5-4. The Astros had runners on first and second with one out instead of a double play to clear the bases, and both scored. Yordan Alvarez singled to tie the game, and Alex Bregman singled off Clay Holmes to bring home Pea with the winning run.

Bregman said, This team has worked so hard; Im so glad to be a part of it. so pleased with this bunch, and we still have more baseball to play. So many players stepped up this year — the coaching staff, our support staff, every single individual that had a hand in this.

Hoskins was going to his first World Series

Hoskins was going to his first World Series

First baseman Rhys Hoskins heard the names and saw the pictures as soon as he joined the Phillies. Those superstars left quite a legacy as part of the baseball team that won the 2008 World Series.

• Friday on FOX, World Series Game 1, sponsored by Capital One.

After Philadelphia defeated San Diego 4-3 in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park, Hoskins is one step closer to being part of the team legend. With a 4-1 series victory, the Phillies won the National League pennant and advanced to their first Fall Classic in 13 years.

• Harper wins the NLCS MVP Award in 2022.

Hoskins, whose four NLCS home runs were the most by a Phillie in franchise history, added, everything. This organization is the one that provided me the opportunity to make a difference in Philadelphia in any manner and trusted in me. Many individuals have been involved in this, dating back to when I was selected, especially when I arrived in 2017. Many individuals who arent here but have worked hard have created the foundation on which others here may thrive, dream, and triumph.

Hoskins is the position player with the longest stay with Philadelphia. They took him out of Sacramento State in the fifth round of the 2014

MLB Draft; He was called up in 2017 despite a 96-loss season. He faced late collapses in three seasons with 80+ wins and missed out on postseason participation.

Even in the postseason, it hasn’t been the most smooth journey for 29-year-old Hoskins, who hoped it would reach this stage. He started the postseason 1-for-19 with seven strikeouts, earning the ire of the fervent Phillies crowd every time he went to the plate.

• A memorable postseason for "Big-Game Wheels."

In the NL Division Series Game 3, Hoskins converted those boos into applause by hitting a three-run home run off Braves right-hander Spencer Strider as part of a six-run third inning. His spectacular bat flip, which consisted of raising his arms and swinging the bat above his head, will go down in local lore forever.

At the 2017 All-Star Game festivities in Miami, where Hoskins participated in the Futures Game and Teller in the Celebrity Softball Game, one of those supporters who are constantly in Hoskins corner, actor Miles Teller of  Top Gun: Maverick, first met the Phillie. Over the years, they have stayed in touch.

Teller, a native of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, recalls seeing the grand slam of Shane Victorinos in the 2008 NLDS Game 2 while seated with his father close to the left-field foul pole. His seats for Hoskins postseason antics were closer to the playing surface.

It’s terrific, Teller remarked. He hit some huge home runs. His home runs were all-powerful. This squad has an intriguing cast, and they are all now experiencing success.

Hoskins hit a long ball in San Diego’s defeat of Game 2 on Wednesday. But this weekend, the Phillies came home, and Hoskins once more heard some jeers during the pregame introductions. The jeers started again when Hoskins committed his second postseason mistake in the fifth inning of Game 3 on Friday. The leadoff runner then scored.

However, Hoskins played great defense and finished 3-for-9 with three two-run home runs. That equals the most a Phillie scored in two straight playoff games.

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski noted, "Rhys has gotten important hits for us throughout this entire series. He is striking the ball far and wide. Rhys Hoskins, in my opinion, best represents who we are as a team in many aspects because he always recovers despite making occasional mistakes. He is tenacious. He is strong. He is one of those men who understand what is happening since he has been here throughout his entire career and is aware of what is required to make this happen.

Hoskins had his sixth multihomer postseason game in team history in Game 4 on Saturday. In the first inning, his initial two-run homer
reduced the margin to 4-2. In the fifth, his second knotted the score at 6-6, setting up his teams triumph.

And in the games decisive third inning, Hoskins home run off YuDarvish gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead. Hoskins is typically composedand hasn’t been afraid to express emotion after each crucial victory.

Bryce Harper, who hit the game-winning home run in the eighth inning and won the NLCS MVP award, said, "Sometimes those

moments bring out your identity and your goals. That's a lot of emotion for a guy thats been here for a long time, losing seasons and with a fan base that, of course, can be tough on you but also can love you simultaneously.

Playing in a city like this is so much fun, making you want to be great. Unfortunately, they also draw greatness out of you since those are the moments that everyone lives for. Just outstanding for him, and Im so happy for him to be able to experience this. Although he will appreciate this evening, he knows we are not yet finished.
