Early Life

Kevin was born on September 7, 1988, in Santa Monica, California, to his father, Stan Love, and mother, Karen Love.

He was the 2nd of his parents ‘ children of three, along with his older brother Colin and Emily.

Stan, his father, was also a large man in the NFL and a good shooter. And, without a doubt, his father’s basketball skills aid in his development of outside shooting and ballhandling abilities.

Kevin Love was born and raised in Santa Monica, California, and then moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon, where he met Klay Thompson, a future NBA player and his little league friend.

Since his boyhood, he has worked a lot for his bounce passes using a cardboard box and has closely watched Wes Unseld’s films.

In his school days, he played basketball with the Lake Oswego Lakers.

As a 10th-grade player, he averaged 25.3 pts, 15.4 rebs, and 3.7 assists per game, leading his team to an overwhelming victory in the 2005 state championship game, which they lost against Jesuit High School.

Later, he competed at the Reebok ABCD Camp among other top-ranked players.

While playing for the Southern California All-Stars, he led the team to a perfect score of 46-0 and won three MVP honors.

In his junior year, he averaged 28 pts, 16.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He averaged 33.9 points, 17.0 rebounds, and four assists per game as a senior.

Lake Oswego advanced to the state final game, defeating South Medford High School and Love’s adversary Kyle Singler.

Finally, Love was named Gatorade National Male Athlete of the Year. He was also a Parade All-American first-team member.

He ended his high school basketball career as the all-time best scorer in Oregon boys’ basketball history with 2,628 points.

Before his freshman season, he obtained permission from Walt Hazzard to use the number 42 for the Bruins, although the school had retired the number 42 for Hazzard in 1996.

He proceeded to dominate the charts without a pause. In March 2009, he received the Rookie of the Month honor.

By the final of his rookie season, he had beaten all of the NBA’s rookies and had 29 double-doubles, making him the first Minnesota Timberwolves player to do it.

He was also regarded as the first Rookie to win the league in offensive rebound % since the 1984/85 season.

He was entitled to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team and ended sixth in the voting for Rookie of the Year.

He returned to action in 2009 after suffering a left-hand injury. Because of the injury, he missed 18 games in his sophomore year.

However, at the end of the season, he was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player.

He earned his first All-Star selection after defeating the New York Knicks with 31 points and 31 rebounds.

Love was chosen to the All-NBA second team in 2011-12 and finished sixth in MVP voting. This occurred following his magnificent loss to Kevin Durant.
