The Miami Heat of the NBA League is now led by the talented American player Duncan Robinson.

Initially, Robinson was not selected for the NBA draught. But everything changed when the Heat offered him a chance in the 2018–19 campaign.

Since 2018, Duncan has played every season for the team and is currently one of their top shooting guards.

Before that, he played collegiate basketball for the Michigan Wolverines and the Williams Ephs, two different university teams.

Due to his lack of special medals and awards, Duncan has yet to make much progress in his playing career.

His greatest accomplishment is his ability to return to the world’s top basketball league despite failing the draught.

Duncan chose to take on the obstacles and eventually proved to the world that he was still working, while most young players lost motivation and withdrew from the spotlight after failing.

His tenacity and unyielding character are what keeps him moving.

Early Life, Family & Education

Duncan Robinson was conceived in the United States on April 22, 1994, in York, Maine. He was Jeffrey and Elisabeth Robinson’s youngest child.

Before him, his parents had produced Marta, his sister, and Eli, his brother. When Duncan was a little child, his family relocated to North Hampshire.

Elisabeth, his mother, was a licensed nurse and medical professional who had previously worked at a hospital in North Hampshire.

She was from the same area and graduated from the University of Hampshire with a nursing and arts degree.

Before finishing sixth grade, he attended Maude H. Trefethen Elementary School, which was close to his home. He had joy growing up, even if his classroom had very few students.

Thanks to his amiable demeanor, he could easily catch up with other kids, even the older ones. As a result, he started playing games with them and eventually developed a love for sports.

But his best sports were basketball and football. In addition to playing at school, he frequently practiced shooting with his friends on the streets and with his siblings at home.

Since he was a teenager, he has dedicated his life to the sport.

Elisabeth, his mother, used to work most of the time, yet she still managed to be there for them when they needed her. His father set up a little hoop in their living room to cheer him up.

He also completed high school in 2012 but spent a year at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire before enrolling in college in 2013.

Duncan graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management.

Basketball Career

High School Career

Robinson joined the high school basketball team at The Governor’s Academy in Massachusetts.

The fact that he was considered short for a high school basketball player initially prevented him from playing much, despite his intense passion for the game.

He did, however, train out to get more physically fit for basketball practice and his junior year, and he showed some progress.

Duncan used to spend hours practicing his shooting and dribbling, trying to make about 1600 shots every week. His perseverance eventually paid off, as he averaged 18.5 points during his senior season.

After graduation, he considered enrolling in Phillips Exeter Academy to improve his overall high school achievements and secure offers from bigger universities. In 2013, under his direction, the institution won its first NEPSAC Class A championship.

College Career

In 2013, Duncan decided to play basketball at Williams College in Williamstown.

The Williams Ephs did participate in the NCAA Division III championship, though. Clearly, if Robinson stayed on this squad, he would struggle to break into the NBA.

Nevertheless, he averaged 17.1 points per game for the season and guided the club to the NCAA Division III championship finals in his first year.

Because of that, he received scholarship offers from numerous prestigious universities. Late in 2014, he ultimately enrolled at the University of Michigan, where he performed for three seasons before graduating in 2018.

Despite having merely ordinary statistics with the Wolverines, he concluded his college career with 237 three-pointers, which ranks fourth all-time in Michigan history.

Professional Career

In the NBA draft of 2018, no NBA team selected Duncan. However, the Miami Heat signed him for the then-upcoming NBA Summer League because they wanted to test the young youngster for a time.

He made an impression on the Heat after five summer league games, averaging 12.4 points and 2.4 rebounds. On July 10, 2018, Duncan agreed to a two-way contract with them.

On October 24, he followed Devean George into the NBA as the first member of Division III to do so.

However, he excelled while primarily playing for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA G League. In his first NBA season with the Heat, he participated in 12 games.

In his second NBA season, Robinson started appearing in 73 games as a regular for the Heat. He made amazing strides throughout the season, averaging 13.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest.

He was dubbed “the most unlikely player in the league” and “one of the best shooters on earth” by The Wall Street Journal in an article from December 13, 2019.

Robinson also hit his 500th three-pointer in the third season, doing so quicker than any other player in the history of the NBA.

On August 6, 2021, he agreed to a new five-year contract with the Heat, and he is currently having a solid season in 2021–2022.

  • All-Independent School League team – 2012

Net Worth

Duncan’s NBA career only began roughly four years ago, yet he now has a net worth of between $1 million and $3 million. The league games are the North Hampshire native’s primary source of revenue.

Duncan signed a one-year contract with the Miami Heat to play mostly for their NBA G League team after going undrafted in 2018.

Even though he participated in a few of their regular-season games, his first season’s earnings were only about $77,000.

However, he stayed with the Heat the following season and participated in many regular-season games. As a result, the team gave him a significant salary of $1.5 million that season.

The highest contract sums ever offered to an undrafted player in the playing history of the league, Duncan agreed to a five-year, $90 deal with them in 2021.

His estimated $15.6 million yearly compensation for the 2021–22 campaign makes him the Miami Heat team’s fourth-highest-paid athlete.

More than $3 million has already been made by Robinson during his NBA career. But if he keeps up his current performance, he will be pretty wealthy in the following seasons.

In addition to playing basketball, Duncan has worked with a few companies as a partner, such as A-Sha Foods and the Ballogy app. In 2021, Ballogy appointed him as their brand ambassador.
