The Nets’ Kevin Durant surpasses Tim Duncan and moves up to position 15
On Monday night, during Brooklyn’s 125-117 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, forward and star of the Nets Kevin Durant created some NBA history. Durant passed Tim Duncan, a former player for the San Antonio Spurs, midway through the second quarter of the game to move into the 15th spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Duncan scored 26,496 points throughout his brilliant career, which Durant has now surpassed.
Dominique Wilkins, with a career total of 26,668 points, is the player ahead of Durant on the all-time list. Oscar Robertson (26,710) and Hakeem Olajuwon are also included (26,946). Durant will surpass all three players if he stays healthy this season. It’s only a matter of time before Durant enters the top 10 since he is fewer than 1,000 points away from doing so.
Durant is one of the NBA’s most consistent bucket-takers and a four-time scoring champion. He still performs at the top of his game at 34. If anything, as the year’s pass, he becomes more effective. Durant is shooting a career-high 56 percent from the field and averaging 29.9 points per game this season.
Durant has the type of skill that should age incredibly well because he is a pure shooter with outstanding stature. In other words, the two-time champion can keep scoring for many years. He might end up toward the top of the list when everything is said and done.
