Haliburton of Pacers is out for at least two weeks with injuries
Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton will be out for at least 2 weeks due to a left elbow sprain and a mild left knee contusion, at which point he will be re-evaluated, the team announced in a news release.
Haliburton’s injury showed up in an MRI on Thursday, but the results might be inconclusive. The Pacers said they’re awaiting a second opinion.
The source wrote this morning Halliburton left Madison Square Garden on crutches after yesterday’s loss to the Knicks. With just over 2 mins left in the third quarter, Haliburton sprinted to the hoop for a layup and lost his right shoe when he fell awkwardly on the floor (video link). He quit the game and didn’t come back.
Viewed as one of the worst teams in the East during the preseason, the Pacers have greatly exceeded expectations in the 2022/23 season. Their 23-19 record puts them tied with New York for the league’s No. 6 seed, and Halliburton has been a big part of that success.
In 40 games (33.4 minutes), the third-year point guard averaged 20.2 points, a league-leading 10.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 steals (.480/.399/) for the All-Stars. Strong reason. 880 shooting.
No one can replace Haliburton’s production, but the Pacers have other capable ball handlers.
Andrew Nembhard, the 31st overall pick in last June’s draft, has started 28 games with Haliburton and has done well as a complementary playmaker, but he was the primary initiator in college. Indiana also has T.J. McConnell, a reliable backup point guard. Both players should see an increase in minutes and touches.
