Luka Doncic: NBA Western Conference Player of the Week
To get past the.500 threshold, the Dallas Mavericks needed a solid week, and Luka Doncic was instrumental in making it happen. When contrasted to his NBA peers, it has resulted in some notice.
For games played between Monday and Friday, Doncic was chosen as the Western Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 25, the NBA said on Monday. Scoring 31.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, he helped the Mavs to a 3-1 record.
Against the Houston Rockets, Doncic scored 50 points, making him the only player in franchise history to have recorded multiple 50-point games alongside Dirk Nowitzki. He finished it by scoring 32 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out nine assists on Christmas Day against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
All eight of Doncic’s Player of the Week victories in his NBA career have occurred since 2019–20. Over the past four seasons, no player has received more nods for Western Conference Player of the Week. Only Jayson Tatum (9) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (10) have accomplished more. With 16, Nowitzki has been nominated for the most Western Conference Player of the Week awards in Mavs history.
Doncic has had a successful season, leading the Mavs with averages of 32.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 1.7 steals. Given that he’s on pace to join Michael Jordan as the only player to ever score at least 32 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists for a single season, his performance should deserve NBA recognition in terms of MVP consideration.
The Mavs’ record is the biggest obstacle to Doncic winning MVP. They had lately fallen below.500, and despite improving to 18-16 after the victory on Sunday, they are still only ranked ninth in the Western Conference. However, a weaker schedule in the final week of the month would present a chance to improve, which would help his MVP campaign.
