Who has more awards Jordan or LeBron?
King James and the Black Mamba. Without a doubt, two of the greatest players in NBA history. If you’re looking for a solid LeBron/Kobe comparison, you’ve come to the right place. Through this article, I will try to explain as objectively as possible why we can (and should) conclude that LeBron James is a better player than Kobe Bryant.
First, let’s look at the regular stats and season awards. LeBron has three MVP awards, Bryant has only one. That alone gives LeBron a big advantage in their respective regular season performances.
Second, LeBron had an immediate impact on the NBA and transformed the perennially bad Cavaliers into a legitimate championship contender. He won Rookie of the Year; Bryant averaged less than eight points per game in his rookie season. Not to mention that Bryant played in the All-Star and Hall of Fame for most of his career.
Basically, all the awards Bryant has won (NBA first team etc.) can be attributed to his longer tenure in the league, so considering James is getting them at a comparable rate, if not faster, these are a kind of baptism.
Kobe Bryant | LeBron James
Points | 25.4 | 27.6 |
Rebounds | 5.3 | 7.2 |
Assists | 4.7 | 6.9 |
Steals | 1.5 | 1.7 |
Blocks | 0.5 | 0.8 |
FG % | 0.453 | 0.483 |
On the defensive end, it’s not much of a comparison. LeBron can guard nearly every position on the floor. Granted, Bryant’s 11 All-Defensive Team awards might be easily captivating, but remember what his own coach, the legendary Phil Jackson, had to say about Bryant’s defense in Jackson’s book: “The voters are Attracted by his extraordinary athleticism and amazing steals, he didn’t play a solid basic defense.” LeBron averaged more defensive rebounds, steals and blocks per game in their respective careers.
Kobe fans are eagerly watching the playoff performance, and before diving into the quality of LBJ’s and Kobe’s playoffs, let’s take a look at their playoff stats:
Kobe Bryant | LeBron James
Points | 25.6 | 28.1 |
Rebounds | 5.1 | 8.5 |
Assists | 4.7 | 6.9 |
Steals | 1.4 | 1.7 |
Blocks | 0.7 | 1.0 |
FG % | 0.448 | 0.462 |
