Ronaldo leaves ManUTD Bench ahead Final whistle against Tottenham
After a slow start to the Premier League season, they lost their first two games 6-1 on aggregate, but United have turned things around, winning six of their last eight. The game saw a 2-0 win over third-placed Tottenham on Wednesday, which saw the Red Devils smile with one notable exception: star striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, who rejoined United last August, fell out of favor with new manager Erik Ten Hag, slipping out of the starting lineup. He didn’t show up for Wednesday’s game, instead heading to the locker room before the final whistle.
After the match, Erik Ten Hag asked about Ronaldo’s early departure from the field, but he refused to elaborate.
“I’m not paying attention to it today,” ten Hag said. “We’ll deal with that tomorrow. I want to continue to focus on the team. It was a fantastic performance from all 11 players.”
United’s rise in the standings coincided with Ronaldo’s demotion to the bench. The 37-year-old forward has made just two appearances in the team’s 10 Premier League games and has not played a single minute in two of the last four games. Ronaldo has played less than 45 minutes in seven games this season.
In addition to the current situation, speculation continues to swirl about how long Ronaldo will stay at the club. The Premier League’s winter transfer window begins on January 1 and will open until the end of the month.
