La Liga title holders Atletico Madrid were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in the week but their European form hasn’t transcended into their domestic campaign thus far. A solid start to the season has seen Diego Simeone’s side lose just once and they are in 4th place just three points off top spot and with a game in hand over Real Sociedad who lead the way.
Atleti have failed to keep a clean sheet on their travels this term but with a great record against Valencia, you would fancy the visitors to build on a 3-0 victory against Real Betis last weekend.
Valencia’s home games this season have brought about a guarantee of goals and although they are unbeaten in three at the Mestalla I reckon they will come up short here. Valencia conceded six goals in the two games prior to their win over struggling Villarreal and with Real Madrid winning 2-1 here back in September I’m backing their city rivals to win by a similar score-line.
Through 12 matches, Los Che have won four, drawn four, and lost four of their fixtures. Three of those wins came in the first four games of the season but up until last weekend, Valencia had gone seven games without a victory. Their 2-0 defeat of Villarreal brought to end their torrid run but with no win in 13 meetings against Atletico Madrid, it seems unlikely that they will follow that up with another three points here.
Jose Boardalas’ men have lost just one of their home games this term and conceded just five goals but that did come against their most difficult guests in the form of Real Madrid.
