NBA Sixth Man of the Year Favorite to win

  • Jordan Poole (+450)

Jordan Poole sixthman of the year candidate2022-2023

Fresh off an NBA championship, Jordan Poole rose from G-League to Splash Stepbrother but was derailed by the return of Klay Thompson after a multi-year absence.

While Poole started as a starter with Thompson at the helm, he’ll be in his purest form off the bench, often the best for sixth-man voting success.

Still only 23 years old, Poole could see more growth — especially defensively — and establish himself as a more valuable backup asset for the Golden State Warriors title defense.

  • Tyler Herro (+500)

Tyler Herro sixthman of the year candidate2022-2023

Considering Tyler Herro led last season in this wire-to-wire match and finished with a -20,000 favorite, it’s a bit of a shock not to see him sitting on the odds now.

Herro’s bench score has been higher only once in the past 15 years, and he’s breezing through a weak field where no other contender has made a convincing season case.

While the competition should be more intense this season, Herro has given himself the green light in Miami’s second unit and has several avenues to increase his minutes. He ended last season with a tear and could surpass his excellent 6MOY campaign if he keeps his upward momentum.

  • Christian Wood (+1,000)

The Mavericks seemed intent on having Christian Wood ride in the second unit, announcing during media day that he would become off the bench. He improved his sixth man odds, up from +3,000 last week.

Wood put up 18 and 10 points for the Rockets in 30 minutes per game as a starter last year and will likely use as a primary offensive option in non-Luka Doncic minutes.

While talent is undeniable, commitment issues have plagued Wood throughout his career and won’t necessarily rest in Houston. It will be the first tour of a truly competitive team as he looks to cement himself as more than just a “good stats, bad team” guy.
