Draymond Green trade talk

Three Potential Draymond Green Trades for the Warriors

Trading Draymond Green by the Golden State Warriors seems like an impossibility. After all, he has served as their dynasty’s defensive focal point for ten years.

During a practice, Green recently punched Jordan Poole in the face. Green’s deal is also up for renewal shortly, and the Warriors may be unable to pay it.

The inconceivable seems reasonable all of a sudden. Here are three trades that, in our opinion, the Warriors should consider if they decide to trade Green this year.

The Warriors need to bring back a strong defensive player if they decide to trade for Green. Otherwise, his loss will have an excessively negative impact on them.

Turner is suitable. He is undoubtedly a different kind of defender than Green. He is far less flexible and typically less effective. He works as a rim protector full-time, however. He is a more dependable floor spacer than Green on the offensive end.

However, the other two clubs in this situation have a clear motivation to participate in this transaction. The Los Angeles Lakers must significantly outperform their 2021–22 campaign. This Agreement will help them in that effort.

A floor-spacer like Hield is always valuable, and Green should team up with Anthony Davis and LeBron James to give the Lakers one of the finest defensive frontcourts in the NBA.

The Pacers, on the other hand, could be driven to fail. The Pacers are near enough to the bottom of the rankings to get top odds in a season where several teams are anticipated to sink ahead of a historic draft. This Agreement would enable them to do that.

This Pacers group often opposes going down. Just remember not to assume it’s unimaginable.

Here, the situation is more straightforward.

Collins is not an excellent substitute for Draymond Green. Although Green is perhaps the finest defensive player of his generation, he is a good defender. Collins has benefitted that Green does not.

These benefits specifically pertain to the offensive side. Collins is a far better floor spacer and lobs finisher than Green is, but neither is he a playmaker like Green is. His capacity to roll or pop out of pick-and-roll sets will add a novel, erratic element to the Warriors’ offensive scheme.

The Atlanta Hawks would be interested in Green. They are centered on Trae Young. He’s one of the NBA’s most explosive offensive players but also among its worst defenders.

The Hawks partially solved this problem; they mostly signed Dejounte Murray to compensate for Young’s defensive shortcomings. Assembling a potent defensive group around Young would need purchasing Green as the last piece.

According to our projections in this article, the Warriors acquire the most suitable replacement for Green through this transaction.

Finney-Smith is not as influential as Green, to be sure. He is a similarly adaptable defensive wing forward, though. And who knows, he may even increase the Warriors’ space. Finney-Smith might progress toward Green’s level of defensive effectiveness in the Warriors’ developing system.

Of course, the Warriors are also bringing in other players. It also won’t hurt to grab a robust floor spacer like Hardaway Jr. All in all, losing a core player allows the Warriors to increase their depth in this area.

The Dallas Mavericks, meantime, have two significant reasons to sign Green. To begin with, his defense may enable them to start with the offensively talented but defensively inept Christian Wood.

In addition, they might employ his backup playmaking to assist Luka Doncic. He’s a logical target for the Mavericks overall.

Even yet, the Warriors find the idea of trading him to a conference opponent absurd.
