NBA GM: Victor Wembanyama’s performance will shift the tank/trade market
Victor Wembanyama’s play against the G League Ignite confirmed the fuss surrounding his potential NBA future. Many clubs have been planning for his draft for several years, and more teams might join in the lottery in May of next year to secure the top overall pick.
Victor “distorts the realities of basketball,” a GM told ESPN on Wednesday. It feels like last night will usher in a rush to the bottom, unlike anything we’ve ever seen. “The tank/trade market will truly alter after that showing.”
“He’s a 7-foot-4 Durant who blocks shots — and he’s not even close to what he will be. According to a general manager for a team that can compete for the No. 1 overall choice in 2023,” ESPN told Wednesday morning, he will be the most touted player since LeBron.
Following Wembanyama’s performance versus the G League Ignite, front offices had a better chance of persuading owners and supporters to adopt a tanking strategy. Top executives have stated that their groups now grasp the transformative significance of selecting Wembanyama. Scoot Henderson’s position at No. 2 as a consolation prize is also quite alluring.
For the teams with the three bad records, there is a 27 percent chance that they will sign either Wembanyama or Henderson.
