Hunter signed a contract extension to Atlanta for the 2023-24 season
The Atlanta Hawks announced today that forward De’Andre Hunter had signed a contract extension through the 2023-24 season. The specifics of the agreement were not published per team policy.
The 6’7 forward participated in 53 games last year, scoring 13.4 points, grabbing 3.3 rebounds, and dishing out 1.3 assists per 29.8 minutes (starting 52 games) (.442 FG%,.379 3FG%, and.765 FT%). In 41 of his 53 games, he scored at least 10 points, and in 11 of those games, he scored 20 or more. From 3/3 to 3/20, Hunter had 14 straight games with at least 10 points, which was the second-longest streak of his career.
Hunter scored a career-high 35 points on 11-21 FGs in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round against Miami; in 43 minutes, he added 11 rebounds, three steals, and two assists. He was the sixth Hawk to do so in a playoff round to have 11 rebounds and at least 35 points in a game.
On 11/3 against Brooklyn, he scored 26 points on 10-11 FGs (6-6 3FGs) in 33 minutes to become one of just five players in franchise history and one of seven NBA players in the previous season to shoot flawlessly from three-point range while making at least six triples.
After averaging 15.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 29.5 minutes (.484 FG%,.326 3FG%,.859 FT%) across 23 games (19 starts) in 2020–21, Hunter was selected for the NBA Rising Stars team. He has 18 occasions with at least ten points, including seven games with twenty or more.
As a rookie in 2019-20, he averaged 12.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 32.0 minutes (.410 FG%,.355 3FG%,.764 FT%). Hunter led qualified NBA rookies in mpg and total minutes (2,018), was fifth in FT%, tied for fifth in 3FG%, sixth in rpg, seventh in FG%, seventh in ppg, and twelfth in apg.
The Hawks acquired Hunter from the New Orleans Pelicans on July 7, 2019. The Los Angeles Lakers initially drafted him in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2019 NBA Draft.
