EuroBasket star Dennis Schroder on Mavericks’ radar

 

NBA insider Marc Stein, Dennis Schroder has been one of the best performers in EuroBasket 2022. He said he would find a new deal soon as the Dallas Mavericks are interested in adding a ball-handler ahead of the 2022-23 season.

 

In addition to Schröder, Stein listed Eric Bledsoe, Facundo Campazzo, Elfrid Payton, and Dennis Smith Jr. as possible options for Dallas in free agency. The Mavs lost Jalen Brunson in the past free agency and have a void in the guard position.

 

Schroder is a proven scorer, averaging 14.2 points on 43.6 percent shooting for his career. He could be a valuable option coming off the bench for the Mavericks. He dished out 7.9 assists per 100 possessions across his spells with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets.

 

The Mavericks have Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie as their primary guards. Dallas has previously shown interest in working on a deal for Collin Sexton, but they did not have the assets to acquire the guard from the Cavs.

 

They cashed in some of their trade assets to land Christian Wood, and they didn’t have the salary-cap space to spend big on another guard in free agency. So, they will look to cover the void via a guard willing to accept a minimum deal.

 

After making the Western Conference Finals, Dallas wants to prove they’re capable of making an even deeper run next season, building a winning squad around Doncic.
