Who will win MLB MVP 2022?
Who will win the MLB MVP in 2022? The top candidates who could win the MLB MVP awards this season. While his defense wasn’t as good at that position, he still earned a 3.2 defensive rating in FanGraphs with three defensive runs saved in 211 innings. Defensive value aside, Edman is the best running back in MLB, and he’s been a solid presence in the lineup. Combine defense, versatility, run impact, and offensive production, giving you an MVP candidate.
Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels
It’s understandable why Shohei Ohtani is the favorite to win the AL MVP. It’s not even because he’s the defending award winner. Ohtani could be one of the MLB players in home runs and OPS while posting a stellar ERA with a high strikeout rate. The last time we saw back-to-back MLB MVPs was 2012-13 (Miguel Cabrera), and Ohtani is at risk of injury. Yet, he’s the best player in baseball, and it’s no surprise he’s a favorite for MLB MVP.
Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels
Mike Trout is 31 years old and last played more than 140 matches in 2018. That’s not to say he can’t win the AL MVP, which is still MLB’s best position player. However, Otani’s presence could cause teammates to split votes. So, someone other than Mike Trout will be the MVP candidate we’re betting on right now.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays
Guerrero Jr. will be our favorite pick to win the AL MVP. An expanded MLB postseason means missing the playoffs, which is a negative for some voters but won’t be a problem. So, you have a slugger who can win the AL batting title and lead the league in home runs. Frankly, Vladimir is a legitimate threat to the Treble. Third, in the AL MVP odds, Guerrero Jr. is our favorite for the award.
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees
It all comes down to Aaron Judge’s durability. He played in 155 games in 2017, hitting 55 homers and 128 RBIs. Since then, IL stints have become an annual issue.
Rafael Devers, Boston Red Sox
If Devers keeps up his production from 2021 (38 homers, 214 runs, .538 SLG), he’s sure to be an AL MVP case, but he stands in the Red Sox to win the AL East. Otherwise, the division champions may have more deserving players.
Wander Franco, Tampa Bay Rays
Franco has a good chance of winning the AL MVP in his career. However, a 21-year-old who doesn’t have great power (for now) and won’t be competing for the batting crown this year won’t finish in the top 10 in AL MVP voting.
Louis Robert, Chicago White Sox
No one expects the version of Robert we’ll see in the second half of the 2021 season. A .350/.389/.622 slash isn’t achievable for a player with a high strikeout rate. However, Robert was more than capable of hitting 30 homers, 20 steals, and 160 points. Robert could take home the MVP if the White Sox top the AL.
Dark horse: Kyle Tucker, Houston Astros (+3,500)
The Astros will be a serious contender to win the AL West, with Tucker showing for most of the season that he can be the best player on the roster. Tucker’s odds make him a solid MLB MVP option, capable of hitting 30-plus home runs with 20 steals, 100 RBIs, & a high OPS.
