Who has more championships AL or NL

The World Series is the yearly championship series played by Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, contested since 1903 by the champion teams of the American League & National League. The winner of the Championship World Series is determined by the best-of-seven playoffs, with the winning team receiving the Commissioner’s Trophy.

The NL is the older of the 2 leagues, established in 1876, while the AL was formed in 1901. The AL allows DH (designated hitter), while the NL does not. The AL teams average more runs than the NL because of the extra steady hitter.

The American League (AL) leads the series with a 47–43–2 (.522) record and a 381–374 run advantage. The longest winning streak in the (NL) National League was 11 games from 1972 to 1982; from 1997 to 2009, the American League team went 13 games without defeat (including the 2002 tie).

Through 2022, there will be a total of 118 World Series appearances, with AL champions winning 67 and NL champions 51. The New York Yankees have played in 40 World Series games and won 27 games, the most titles, and wins of any team in the major North American professional sports leagues. The Dodgers in the NL have the most losses, with 14. the Yankees have the most losses in the AL, with 13. The St. Louis Cardinals have won 11 championships, the most of any NL club, second only to the Yankees in history, and 19 overall appearances, third most among NL clubs. The Dodgers represented the NL in the most World Series games with 21 appearances.
