What MLB team has never won MVP?
In more than 50 opportunities, the New York Mets have never had a player win the MVP award. Things will stay the same for a while.
When Johan Santana pitched a no-hitter for the New York Mets, Flushing’s Beluga was an arrow. Many franchises have these “out of reach” accomplishments. For the Mets, the one that continues to elude them is the MVP.
The Mets are one of only 3 MLB teams without an MVP. The other two, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Rays, have only 20 years to get one. Amazon took nearly three times as long.
In 1988, two people on the roster came close to winning the award. Darryl Strawberry trailed winner Kirk Gibson with 70 percent of the vote, compared to his 81 percent. Kevin McReynolds came in third with 48 percent of the vote.
That particular season was no snub. Gibson went straight to the award. In doing so, the drought lasted for 30 years.

David Wright has never finished a year worse than fourth. Even though Mike Piazza was in the Hall of Fame, even in all his monster years, he only ever finished third.
The 1969 season almost got them their first MVP. Cy Young Award winner Tom Seaver is second only to Willie McCovey. Each received 11 first-place votes. However, McCovey’s 79 percent share topped Seaver’s 72 percent. A slim margin has dogged the team ever since.
The Rays need to have MVP-caliber players on their roster. While the Diamondbacks could see someone like Paul Goldschmidt take home the award, others routinely surpass him in some areas yearly.
Throughout history, this team has always put pitching first and offense second. As such, they have quite a rich history of Cy Young winners. While pitchers qualify for MVP, it would take a historic season for either arm to wrest it from the bat.
