In the 2021 Wimbledon quarter-finals against Federer will be Poland’s 14th seed Hubert Hurkacz.
On Monday, due to the pouring rain at Wimbledon, Hurkacz defeated Russia’s second-ranked star Daniel Medvedev, and their fourth round was suspended on Monday.
The game resumed yesterday afternoon (July 6). Medvedev hopes to continue to lead Hurkacz with a total score of 2-1, but he continued to struggle and decline in the fourth set before the rain on Monday.
After winning the first place at Wimbledon in 2018 and this year’s French Open, Hurkacz, ranked 14th in the world, rushed to victory and will now enter the quarter-finals against Federer.
Hurkacz participated in the French Open and defeated Tannis Sandgren in the first round. This marked his first victory in a Grand Slam and any ATP tournament. In the second round, he lost to third seed Marin Čilić in four sets.
In August, Hurkacz made his debut at the US Open. Starting from qualifying, he scored the third consecutive Grand Slam draw as a qualifier, beating John Patrick Smith, Egor Gerasimov and Pedro Martinez Porter. Luo (both in straight sets) entered the first round of the US Open. There, he met Stefano Travaglia, who, like many others, retired from the heat. In the second round, Hurkacz lost to the 2014 US Open champion Marin Čilić in the second match.
In November, Hurkacz participated in the 2018 Next Generation ATP Finals in Milan, where he defeated Jaume Munar and lost to Frances Tiafoe and Stefanos Tsitsipas. At the end of the season, Hurkacz was nominated for the ATP Newcomer of the Year Award.
